Diagnostic Veterinary Sonographer
Bianca is a highly skilled Registered Veterinary Technician with 13 years of experience in veterinary medicine, 7 of those years spent specializing in Diagnostic Imaging at the Ontario Veterinary College. From the very start of her career, she had a profound interest in ultrasound, leading her to train under some of the field’s top sonographers. Her expertise was further refined under the mentorship of Dr. Alex zur Linden and Dr. Ryan Appleby, two esteemed clinical veterinary radiologists and Co-Founders of the proudly Canadian independent teleradiology group, Cygnus.
As the founder of WAVES, Bianca brings mobile ultrasound services directly to a variety of veterinary practice types including general, emergency and tertiary—providing precise, timely, and reliable diagnostics seamlessly across all. Committed to fear-free handling, she prioritizes patient comfort, using gentle, low-stress techniques to enhance both the experience and the quality of imaging. Bianca’s mission is to make academic-quality ultrasound more accessible, supporting clinicians with expert imaging they can trust while ensuring patients remain calm, comfortable, and stress-free throughout the process.
In addition to her clinical work, Bianca is passionate about education and professional development, teaching diagnostic ultrasound for miEducation, one of the leading veterinary continuing education companies in Canada. Through hands-on instruction, she helps veterinarians and technicians develop their imaging skills, ensuring the next generation of professionals can confidently integrate ultrasound into their practice.

Dr. Alex zur Linden DVM, DACVR
(co-founder of Cygnus)
Alex grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and did his undergrad in molecular biology and biochemistry, and animal physiology. He attended veterinary school at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. From there a small animal rotating internship was completed at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in Ventura California, before completing a diagnostic imaging residency at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He joined the department of clinical studies at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario in 2012. His research interests include ultrasound training model construction and testing, interventional radiology procedures, and use of 3D printing in clinical patients, teaching, and research.
Dr. Ryan Appleby DVM, DACVR

Ryan Appleby was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He completed his residency at NC State in 2019. His research interests include the role of artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging, imaging of the urinary tract as well as ultrasound elastography. Ryan serves as an associate editor of the journal Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound and was the guest editor in chief for the VRU Special Issue on Artificial Intelligence. Ryan is passionate about teaching students and general practitioners about Radiology and started the website obivet.com to provide continuing education and case interpretations in a short, video-based format.
